2026 Solo Exhibition · K Gallery, Dubai
New Artworks by Baseem Rayyes exploring fire, erasure, and the weight of what remains when identity is set alight. A reckoning with power, loss, and the stubborn persistence of the human.
Exhibition Statement
In this series, Rayyes confronts the moment where all masks fall and all games end. The burning is not destruction alone — it is the violent clearing that precedes truth.
Mr. Y — the recurring everyman of Rayyes' work — stands at the edge of erasure. These canvases ask: when fire takes everything we have built, what is left that was always real? It is a question about nations, about selves, and about the art of survival.

A dense tableau of figures reduced to playing cards mid-flame — the game is rigged, the players expendable. Rayyes channels the absurdity of political spectacle into an image that refuses to let the viewer look away.

The aftermath rendered as question rather than answer. Charred remnants of power and identity overlap in Rayyes’ layered composition, asking what survives when everything we build is set alight.

The instant before collapse — figures caught in suspended animation between dignity and destruction. A meditation on the fragile seconds when history could still go either way.

After the fire, what is left? Not rubble, but traces of the human. Rayyes strips the composition down to its emotional skeleton — a quiet, devastating accounting of loss and persistence.
